Carcar City

1. CARCAR CITY
Carcar is a city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 107,323 people. In 2005, Metro Cebu's definition was expanded to include Danao City in the north, and the municipality of San Fernando and the then town of Carcar (made a city in 2007) down south
Carcar formerly Sialo, is one of the cities in Cebu province that is famous for its footwear manufacturing and is branded as the “Shoe Capital of Cebu”. Aside from that, it is also called the “Heritage City Of The Province” because it housed a lot of old Spanish and American structures.
One good example is the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria, one of the most extraordinary Spanish-colonial churches and the second oldest church in Cebu. The church is a 124 years old structure inspired by Greek-Roman architecture, with a touch of Muslim style and is made of bricks, cement, and mortar. It also has a main nave (center of the church) and two aisles with entrance that has a dual arch design.
Another amazing structure that you can find is the Carcar Rotunda, a gazebo style located at Carcar Plaza within the city limits. This rotunda has a very intricate design with two statues in the roof that is surely an eye-catcher.
Kabkaban Festival is another reason to visit Carcar, the town’s most celebrated annual event. Kabkaban is a dance ritual believed to be a way to drive away bad spirits and is being celebrated every last week of November.
The town is also known for their delicacies like chicharon, ampao, and bucarillo. You can buy these delicacies everywhere, from bus terminal, market and even in the street.
So if you’re planning to have a glimpse of Carcar just ride a bus in Cebu South Bus terminal located in Bacalso Avenue. The approximated travel time from Cebu City to Carcar is around one hour. For a quicker travel time, head over to the One Citilink Terminal and ride a van-for-hire. This alternative will be a bit more expensive, but it will also shorten time spent on the road.
